She has seen firsthand the emotional and physical strain that often comes with taking care of an ill or elderly loved one, starting at the tender age of 13 when she helped care for her beloved grandfather while he fought cancer.
Soon after he passed away, her grandmother suffered a severe stroke and once again, it was all hands on deck as Chris and her immediate family worked together to aid in her recovery. Chris knows that the pace many families keep while trying to care for a senior is simply not sustainable without professional care assistance.
Says Chris, “These experiences shaped me in profound ways. There were moments of exhaustion and despair, certainly—nights when I would retreat to my room and let the tears flow freely, mornings when I wondered if I could face another day of caregiving. But always, always, there was the knowledge that what I was doing mattered in the most fundamental way.”
As a senior care advocate, Chris also helps seniors and their families understand all the benefits of their Long-Term Care insurance policies, any VA benefits for eligible senior veterans, and other funding options that might cover the costs of in-home senior care and services.
